What is the Rapa Nui National Park?

The Rapa Nui National Park covers 43% of the island’s territory. It is a protected wilderness area, a large archaeological reserve, and a World Heritage Site declared by UNESCO.

Which sites are open for visits?

Currently, 13 authorized sites can be visited: Orongo, Vinapū, Vaihū, Akahanga, Rano Raraku, Ahu Tongariki, Te Pito Kura, Hanga Rau (Anakena), Tahai, Vai a Mei, Roiho, Ahu Akivi, and Puna Pau.

What documentation do I need to enter?

You must have your park entrance ticket (personal and non-transferable) and present your identity card or passport in addition to your guide.

Which sites can I enter with the ticket?

The ticket allows entry to all 13 authorized sites as many times as you wish, except for Orongo and Rano Raraku, which can only be visited once due to their fragility.

What is the duration of the ticket?

The ticket is valid for 10 days from the first entry control carried out by the park rangers.

What are the park's opening hours?

Monday to Sunday, from 09:00 to 18:00 hrs.
Exceptions:

  • Ahu Tongariki: opens from sunrise.
  • Tahai: remains open until sunset.

Does the park have sanitary services?

Yes, there are currently 4 restrooms available at the Orongo, Rano Raraku, Hanga Rau (Anakena), and Ahu Akivi sites.

Is it mandatory to enter with a guide?

Yes. All visits must be made with an accredited guide or member of the Rapa Nui ethnic group. This ensures the safety of visitors and the protection of archaeological sites.

Where can I find an accredited guide?

All our tours include a certified local guide.

Where can I get a map of the park?

In physical format, you will find it at the park ticket offices or at the SERNATUR offices.

What happens if I lose my ticket?

The ticket is personal and non-transferable. In case of loss, you must purchase a new one to enter the authorized sites.

Can I leave and re-enter on the same day?

Yes, as long as it is within the validity of the 10 days and you present your ticket together with your identity document and your respective guide.

Can I pay with a card or only in cash?

Most businesses accept debit/credit cards and cash, both in Chilean pesos.
